Eliza, obviously I have no S~G MUD characters yet but if you have a yen for doing character portraits you're more than welcome to give my three DragonRealms characters a try. They are:

Ssoldieri Assp:
A S'kra Mur paladin. This guy is 100% macho soldier. He resembles a man with a snake's head and tail, camoflauge scales for skin, and slitted eyes (one green eye and one brown). His build is powerful and imposing. He wears chain mail, an ordinary shield and a brown leather sheath and hip pouch. He also wears an olive camoflauge cloak. You could make him holding just about any weapon as he is learning them all. (A sword would be fine.) He also wears a bronze serpentine tail band. Just as a side note, I always pictured him as having the wedgelike python head, not the blunt boa type head.

Starsfalling:
Also a S'kra mur, but with gray scales and slitted silver eyes. He wears leather armor and a cloak in shades of dark gray. He wears a heavy crossbow over one shoulder. His main weapon is a dragon-pommelled arzfilt. As I understand it an arzfilt is a broadsword with an unusually shaped blade, perhaps a curved end like a machete? His sheath is a long leather pouch with a drawstring clasped with a silver ram's head. He also wears a spiral armband with an onyx ram on it and a fancy platinum ring with a crest on it. Same note about head shape as for Ssoldieri above. Starsfalling is not as brawny and macho as Ssoldieri - more elegant and wizardly but still dangerous. If you want to show his magic, his main spells are fire spells. Maybe a lot of fire surrounding him?

Snowswhisper:
She is a Rakash Empath. She is wolflike, with a wolf's head and fur, and a wolf's tail. She has white fur and white eyes. Snows wears white doeskin armor, a white leather mask (which you don't have to show if you don't want to) and beaded slippers. She does not carry weapons but she could be shown with a wooden staff or walking stick. She wears a white velvet knapsack decorated with many tiny colorful beads, and some beaded slippers. She has several different herb pouches on her belt and hip. She also wears a wooden amulet (around her neck), a wooden dove trinket (like a pin) and a simple wooden ring, as well as a fancier ring with a crest. That one is made of striped shell. She is a gentle healer and should appear generous and nonthreatening, perhaps somewhat shy. If you really wanted to capture the essence of Empath, you could have her holding her hand out in offering to the viewer, with a bleeding wound on the hand. (Empaths heal by taking others' wounds upon themselves)

If you like doing characters and want to do it long term, I understand it is possible to get a contract with Simutronics (the company that does Dragonrealms) to do official character portraits. It does involve jumping through a lot of hoops though.

There is also the Illuminators Guild ( http://www.illuminatorsguild.com/index2.html ) which isn't as big business as Simutronics, but allows more styles and less 'hoops' and is slightly more possible for my level of skill at the moment! I'll have a look at your characters :)

Heh heh heh these are cool! :-) I particularly like the intriguing little hints of texture, like the chain mail on Ssoldieri's arm. Thanks!

Thanks. I just got a copy of Photoshop and am learning to use is (as opposed to Paint Shop Pro - the differences are pretty astonishing). It's good to have something actual to use rather then just exercises! Still a lot to learn. Patience, for example, the fact that my computer needs more RAM, for another example! lol

I'll probably get to your wolf lady over the weekend, but if you have any constructive critisim of these, don't be afraid to put them all in a very long email!
